Introducing Beautiful Stories

Stories are the human language.

They help us make sense of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we might be going. Beautiful Stories is a five-year storytelling initiative of the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination, gathering stories of astounding, ordinary people through journal, film, and audio. This short film introduces the vision behind the project and the belief at its heart: human experience is holy ground.

Any of us who think that we don't live by a story are fooling ourselves. The question is, what kind of stories? Are they truthful stories? Are they honest stories? Are they good stories? Do they ask us to be more human? And do they ask us to be more alive? Do they ask us to be more awake? Do they ask us to be more virtuous?

And so the kind of stories that I long for and ache for are the kind that take time. You have to be patient to hear them. You have to look, and you have to trust.

You have to believe that there is a beautiful reality that exists in the world, and that if you look long enough and hard enough, you can get at least glimpses of it.
